Making the Music

Steve Law has had "all this music" building up for years; now it is just pouring out. Steve thinks playing with the unbelievable musicians in his band is like laying down the best paint on canvas.
Steve’s lifelong journey of music began early with elementary guitar and cello lessons. Since then, Steve has loved playing with others, and for others.
The excitement of playing live never wears off for Steve. The thrill of connecting with a live audience and being able to touch them musically is the reason he loves being a musician.
Steve's influences are too many to mention with a full range from classical to heavy metal. Some artists to name a few are Tom Petty, The Beatles, Michael Hedges, Leo Kottke and many others.
Backed by bassist / guitarist / singer / engineer Kyle Zender, vocalist and percussionist Toddy Ivy, and Hill Baker on the drum kit and cajon, the Steve Law Band has a repertoire of over 30 original songs and a handful of covers.

What People Are Saying

  • After releasing a five-song EP, Balance, in 2011 and a live album last year with Kyle Zender, Steve Law returns with a self-titled release that doesn’t stray too far from the acoustic-guitar-driven folk rock of the EP. While Law sounds like he’s influenced by the likes of James Taylor and Paul Simon, his vocal delivery at times recalls that of Rufus Wainwright, especially on the opening cut, “On the Run.” The cozy, stripped-down tracks here suit his relaxed vocal style, as do the harmonies by Toddy Walters. Law no doubt has a knack for writing catchy tunes, such as the radio-friendly “Other Side of Your Heart” and “Telluride,” which features some gorgeous pedal-steel work from John Macy.

  • We felt it was about time we showed Steve Law Band some love. The dropped a self-titled six song EP last year, and the record is a melodic folk rock masterpiece. With male and female harmonies, the music is attention-catching right from the opening track “On The Run.” It’s not often that folk-rock seems appropriate for a slow dance, but this album makes it happen. This cd make it up our stack and caught our attention because of the passionate vocals and harmonies. Topped off with reverb-eddled guitar solos and overall solid instrumentation, this record is the perfect fit for romance.
